Drones create new opportunities for businesses and consumers to evaluate. In order to see the full benefits of drones and protect the investment, it's critical to understand the risk associated with drone operations:
1. Regulation - Transport Canada has developed guidelines governing the use of drones. Businesses are required to obtain a Special Flight Operations Certificate before operating a drone.
2. Broad Use - Drones have the potential to be a broad-us aircraft. From photography to commercial surveying the business opportunities are growing rapidly.
3. Casualty and Cyber Liabilities - Most commercial insurance policies exclude the operation of aircraft. Not only is there a risk of crashing, but drones can be hacked and used maliciously. Transport Canada requires all commercial drone operators to carry third-party liability insurance.
